People are sometimes afraid of what they don’t know… From the mind of Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and award-winning stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson, GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO is a story you think you may know… but you don’t. A father's wish magically brings a wooden boy to life in Italy, giving him a chance to care for the child. Pinocchio is a fictional character and the protagonist of the children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi of Florence, Tuscany.

"ClassVR Portal" BCPEF Grant 2022 2023
Over the years our library media center at Cleveland Middle School has taken risks, experimenting with the educational benefits of developing technologies. From eBooks to iPads to 3D computers and laser printers, we’ve acquired through generous grants, such digital tools to enhance our students’ learning, with an enthusiastic compulsion. Our latest endeavor “ClassVR Portal” An Educational Focused Virtual Reality Solution… is certainly no exception. We wanted to introduce our students to augmented reality, simulations that could transport them into the past where they could meet historical figures, stand under Juliet’s balcony or witness firsthand, an asteroid striking Planet Earth. Studies show that by adding such incredible virtual reality experiences to daily lessons, there’s improvements in student’s comprehension, collaboration and sense of well-being.
Please listen and watch and judge for yourself the level of student’s engagement with this hands on, curriculum aligned, intuitive learning tool. And as always, we deeply appreciate our generous donors...

Digital citizenship education should be about protecting our students online.
Common Sense Education and Remind have teamed up to build a weeklong unit that teaches the importance of safe digital communication, while also introducing the teacher, students and parents to Remind’s new tool, Chat. So, while you are teaching a well-structured, age-specific, unit on digital citizenship, you are also learning how to use Chat, a tool will be incredibly beneficial to your classroom communication beyond the unit.
Filled with lessons that include videos, articles and activities, InCtrl from Cable Impacts teaches key digital citizenship concepts. This series of lessons is geared towards grades 4 through 8. Focusing on this age group makes sense. As I mentioned above, the earlier you reach your students with digital citizenship education, the better.
Digizen has a wealth of resources that touch on topics from safe social networking to protecting your students from cyberbullying. While there are resources for teachers, Digizen has also provided information aimed at parents and students. While we as teachers can do everything in our power to teach digital citizenship, we are but one part of the puzzle of safe online activity.

"This clay cylinder is inscribed in Babylonian cuneiform with an account by Cyrus, king of Persia (559-530 BC) of his conquest of Babylon in 539 BC and capture of Nabonidus, the last Babylonian king. This cylinder has sometimes been described as the 'first charter of human rights', but it in fact reflects a long tradition in Mesopotamia where, from as early as the third millennium BC, kings began their reigns with declarations of reforms." ~ British Museum, where it is kept.

Explore the Star Wars Universe...
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, there were three movies. Then a holiday special. Then three more movies. And animated TV shows. And video games! And books! So many wonderful books! Over the decades, the beloved Star Wars universe became just that: a universe. Okay, so it’s technically a galaxy, but that’s still pretty darn big. Much of it spread through novels. Lucasfilm deemed Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy– Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command –the official continuation of the movies. These novels, and several after, were the next generation of the Star Wars saga. Read more of the Star Wars Canon here...And check out more by visiting your CMS LMC!
